Netherlands Kit

One of the top teams in Europe, Netherlands had a half successful qualifying campaign finishing second in their group, being defeated twice by Belarus and Romania. It is part of what the specialists call “The Group of Death” at Euro, together with Italy, France and Romania.

Having quite a lot of quality players, Holland is one of the favourites of the Euro 2008. I believe that any two teams going to quarterfinals from Group C will have real chances to play the final and win the tournament.

Here is the complete list of 23 dutch players for Euro:

1 Edwin van der Sar
2 André Ooijer
3 John Heitinga
4 Joris Mathijsen
5 Giovanni van Bronckhorst
6 Demy de Zeeuw
7 Robin van Persie
8 Orlando Engelaar
9 Ruud van Nistelrooy
10 Wesley Sneijder
11 Arjen Robben
12 Mario Melchiot
13 Henk Timmer
14 Wilfred Bouma
15 Tim de Cler
16 Maarten Stekelenburg
17 Nigel de Jong
18 Dirk Kuyt
19 Klaas Jan Huntelaar
20 Ibrahim Afellay
21 Ryan Babel
22 Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
23 Rafael van der Vaart
Coach: Marco van Basten

    Austria Kit

Austria is one of the two host nations of the European Championship so they played no qualifying games. Lucky them I would say as I can’t see their current team having any chance to qualify for a final tournament.

Austria it is probably the worst team present at Euro 2008. Playing in Group B alongside Croatia, Germany and Poland, I can’t see them winning any match. Here is their full team for Euro 2008.

    1 Alex Manninger
    2 Joachim Standfest
    3 Martin Stranzl
    4 Emanuel Pogatetz
    5 Christian Fuchs
    6 René Aufhauser
    7 Ivica Vastic
    8 Christoph Leitgeb
    9 Roland Linz
    10 Andreas Ivanschitz
    11 Ümit Korkmaz
    12 Ronald Gercaliu
    13 Markus Katzer
    14 György Garics
    15 Sebastian Prödl
    16 Jürgen Patocka
    17 Martin Hiden
    18 Roman Kienast
    19 Jürgen Säumel
    20 Martin Harnik

    Switzerland Kit

Switzerland qualified at Euro 2008 as one of the two host nations without having to play a single qualifying match.  Jakob Kuhn’s team will have to play in Group A against Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey.  I can’t see them winning any match to be honest. I’d say the best to expect from them might be a draw against Turkey. Here is the full list of players for Euro 2008:

    1 Diego Benaglio
    2 Johan Djourou
    3 Ludovic Magnin
    4 Philippe Senderos
    5 Stephan Lichtsteiner
    6 Benjamin Huggel
    7 Ricardo Cabanas
    8 Gökhan Inler
    9 Alexander Frei
    10 Hakan Yakin
    11 Marco Streller
    12 Eren Derdiyok
    13 Stéphane Grichting
    14 Daniel Gygax
    15 Gelson Fernandes
    16 Tranquillo Barnetta
    17 Christoph Spycher
    18 Pascal Zuberbühler
    19 Valon Behrami
    20 Patrick Müller
    21 Eldin Jakupovic
    22 Johan Vonlanthen
    23 Philipp Degen
    Coach: Jakob Kuhn

  • Euro 2008 – Analysis

    • Author: Admin

It is the time for my first analysis since I have started this blog and this regards the Euro 2008 matches.

Two big upsets for tonight and I’m pretty sure that most of the punters will agree with me. First is the draw in Kazakhstan – Belgium didn’t make it even if they had a comfortable 2-0 lead. The second one came from France. Totally unexpected the french lost against Scotland.

Let’s see my predictions group by group:

    Group A

    Kazakhstan – Belgium x [2-2] – my prediction was 2 – wrong

    Finland – Poland x [0-0] – my prediction was x – right

    Portugal – Serbia x [1-1] – my prediction was 1x – right

    Group B

    Lithuania – Faroe Islands 1 [2-1] – my prediction was 1 – right

    France – Scotland 2 [0-1] – my prediction was 1 – wrong

    Ukraine – Italy 2 [1-2] – my prediction was x2 – right

    Group C

    Norway – Greece x [2-2] – my pred. was 1x – right

    Bosnia – Moldova 2 [0-1] – my pred was 1 – wrong

    Turkey – Hungary 1 [3-0] – my pred. was 1 – right

    Group D

    Slovakia – Wales 2 [2-5] – my pred. was 1x – wrong

    Cyprus – San Marino 1 [3-0] – my pred. was 1 – right

    Czech Rep. – Ireland 1 [1-0]- my pred. was 1 – right

    Group E

    Andorra – Croatia 2 [0-6] – my pred. was 2 – right

    Macedonia – Estonia x [1-1] – my pred was 1 – wrong

    England – Russia 1 [3-0] – my pred. was 1x – right

    Group F

    Iceland – N. Ireland 1 [2-1] – my pred. was 1x – right

    Denmark – Liecthenstein 1 [4-0] – my pred was 1 – right

    Spain – Latvia 1 [2-0] – my pred. was 1 – right

    Group G

    Bulgaria – Luxembourg 1 [3-0] – my pred was 1 – right

    Slovenia – Belarus 1 [1-0] – my pred. was 1x – right

    Albania – Netherlands 2 [0-1] – my pred. was 2 – right

From 21 matches I’ve had 16 right and 5 wrong which is pretty good I would say.

    Slovenia – Belarus

Both of the teams have zero qualifying chances. Even so, I wouldn’t consider this match one to bet on… Perhaps a double chance bet would be wiser.

    My prediction: 1x (home win/draw) [2-1/1-1]

    Bulgaria – Luxembourg

Easy match for Bulgaria. They should win in order to keep their qualifying hopes alive.

My prediction: 1 (home win) [3-0]

    Albania – Netherlands

The albanians are a pretty incomode team, hence the draw in Bulgaria, but the way Holland played thair last match was awesome. Holland needs to win in order to match the number of points Romania have on the first position.

My prediction: 2 (away win) [0-2]

    Iceland – Northern Ireland

From my point of view, N. Ireland is the most pleasant surprise of this qualification campaign. On the 6th position with only 5 points so far, Iceland is basically out from the qualification race. N.Ireland did amazingly wel lso far, being second with 16 points from 8 matches. If they will win against Iceland, Spain will have a hard time in the remaining matches. Personally I see this match ending in a draw or a very tight victory.

    My prediction: 1x (home win/draw) [1-0/0-0]

    Denmark – Liechtenstein

    Easy match for Denmark.

My prediction: 1 (home win) [4-0]

    Spain – Latvia

This is a must win for Spain and I’m sure they will do so.

My prediction: 1 (home win) [3-0]

    Andorra – Croatia

I’m sure is not even worth betting on this one as the quotes are minimal

My prediction: 2 (away win) [0-4]

    Macedonia – Estonia

A match without any tension as both of the teams are out of the qualifying race. A plus of omogenity for Macedonia which should win.

My prediction: 1 (home win) [2-0]

    England – Russia

I wouldn’t bet on this one. England has a strange way to play their matches despite the high quality of their players. Sometimes they just struggle to pass easy opponents and the very next day they prove to be a top team. This kind of inconsistency makes from England a team not to bet on. Russia will come to Wembley to get a draw which will keep them 1 point ahead with the same number of played matches.

My prediction: 1x (home win or draw) [2-1/1-1]
